The Stage, how wonderful. I have this love and hate relation with the Stage. While I am in a play, I am hating it. When I am off I desperately miss it. When I about to resign to it forever, I hear it seducing me back in. It's all Shakespeare's faul…

ReFilling the Well: the artists' need to replenish

Re-filling the Well: The artist's need to replenish
This is an essay published in The Soul of the American Actor.

In a world where everything is fast, solutions are quick, pain is instantly relieved and grief is a 3 day bereavement leave, I have discovered that many artists also resort to the quick fix for their creative processes. As an acting teacher, I encounter this question more than any other: how long will it take me to ‘get it’? As a director, I perceive… Continue

St Patrick's Breastplate

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through the belief in the threeness,
Through the confession of the oneness
Of the Creator of Creation.

I arise today
Through the strength of Christ's birth with his baptism,
Through the strength of his crucifixi… Continue

Hi Molly. I'm in the Seattle area. I haven't done actual theatre since High School. Miss it!! I checked out the group you started here and saw that you have an acting workshop. Where is that?

I thought I'd inverted part of the word. Tatania, isn't it? (I have a cousin called the other thing) My point about the accent was only that I'm used to hearing it with a New Zealand accent, maybe towards the 'cultured' end of the spectrum. I'm all for keeping your own accent. A lot of Kiwi singers have a weird compulsion to sing with an american accent... very strange. I like the way we talk, dark Ls, flat vowels, and all ;)

Hi Molly, I just looked on Youtube- The Tatiana audition was amazing. Shakespeare with an American accent is a little different to listen to, but still... your ability to communicate is awesome!

Dear Molly,
I happened across your picture and was drawn in by the look on your face of freedom; a carefree aura of drinking up every moment of your life - your photos proved it. We should be enjoying life, even through the pain there is only more freedom once we've faced it and moved on to a higher contentment, and a bit more like having the "Mind of Christ." Your brother in Christ, Peace to you, Randy

Hi Molly, I love the table idea! How would you get light to go through it, I wonder? I love the look of light thru coloured glass, and I like art that tells a story. You were interested in what I put on the goose, so here's a brief description: I was looking at Art Nouveau books at the time, so the curly bits are inspired by that. Looking at the life of Rich Mullins has been a spring-board for me, as I looked at him and thought, 'What made him as he was?' so I did some reading (am an if-in-doubt-read-a-book chick) and found that he was influenced by GK Chesterton and Brennan Manning. So I found and read some of their stuff (yay for university libraries) and it resonated. So I have an arrow head (pointing to heaven) for Rich Mullins, and a footprint with a drop of Grace for Brennan Manning. GK Chesterton was a writer and a journalist and a poet and a philosopher, but he was also a cartoonist- so I reproduced his cartoon called something like 'the philosopher at one with nature'. Those three guys influenced me and pointed me towards God, which is why they get a 'mention'. My aunt is my mentor, and she is always talking about God working 'in and through' us, so there is water flowing into and through the goose. I used the Px for Jesus, and the white goose itself is the celtic symbol for the Holy Spirit, and the trinity knot is on there, too, for God the Father. I tried to avoid cliches and being too obvious with my symbols. It is art, after all, and art is about conversations. If it can be too easily read, then there is nothing left to talk about... The goose was done in 2005- In some ways it needs updating, as I have been influenced and have grown and walked since then, but it represents a certain time and place and I am pleased with it- though it has a couple of small cracks from it's time in the kiln, but one could attach meaning to that, too, eh?
I love your pictures of yourself in your various contexts. It looks like you are doing what you love- how good that is!

I'm sorry Nicholas - I got in a hurry and used the wrong name....I apologize. I'm convinced that we all need good mentors....in life...and to help us decipher our callings. How is the men's breakfast going? Any opportunity for a sage/mentor there?…
