What a nice group I have watch many movies and everyhone I have watched i have gotten from them one of my favorite movies from the last 3 years has been
the Kingdom Of Heaven the most powerful scene in the movies is when Balina
is talking to his fathers priest when Balin say I have lost my religon and the preist looks and Balin and tells him that religon holds no truth only wahat one
things in his head and in his heart that is a very powerful scene because what
we feel with our heart and what we think in our head is what is most important. another one of my favorite movies is Les Miserable the scence were the Bishop forgive JonviaJon for stealing the silver when he says with this silver I have brought you from the evil one and know I give you back to God what a powerful scene I have watched many times and everytime I thing of what Christ did for us to buy our souls from the evil one there are many
more movies that I have came to love over the years all with a story behind them yes in holloywood they dont make many good movies but there is a movie company out there that does make very godly movies they are called
cloud ten productions they try hard to make Christian movies with good christians believs one set of them are the left behind movies and also facing the gaints all 4 movies very wonderful made and all with Christ in the center of the movie I have watch many 20 times or more and each time I get something new from then because they show the grace of God in them and also just why Jesus Christ gave his life to buy our souls from Satan or the evil one.

I love Little Women and Sense and Sensibiilty as well, haven't seen last of the Mohicans in so long that I would have to watch it again to give my opinion. I love a lot of the movies that Focus Features does, movies like "On a Clear Day" that are full of substance, if you haven't seen it I would certianly reccomend it.

I have mostly given up on getting much substance from movies. My suspended disbelief has been maxed out. I did get a lot from The Blind Side, especially because it was a true story. A close second to substance is wholesome. I'm a sucker for wholesome movies like the older version of Little Women, The Last of the Mohicans, and Sense and Sensibility. For pure fantasy I like Always and Forrest Gump. There is some wholesome there.

Movies that actually have a storyline and plot are what draw me in, those that are not necessarily feel good movies, but that are really about people. most recently I watched "Everybody's Fine" and loved it, because it was real.

Yes there are those certian moods that I get in that makes me want to watch a comedy, or a romance, etc. but even then I want a movie that has substance.

I have noticed these posts regarding violence and the like in recent movies. I have a bit of an observation about the character of current movies. In large part Hollywood has a hard time coming up with movies that really speak to people in a deep way. They make up for it with special effects, which they are good at, and sex, and violence and things that shock. As I think back on the movies that really are memorable in my mind, none of them relied on violence, sex, or special effects to carry the movie. Writing good stories is just too hard for Hollywood these days. I guess they are a reflection of our society, not very deep or memorable.

God really ambushed me one morning with a DR Who episode (sci-fi). Dr who has always reminded me of Jesus, a man with 2 hearts one human and one eternal, and/or of a believer with Christ in him.

The hero “the doctor” has hidden his true self, his true identity in a pocket watch and “forgotten” who he is. But the enemy is at the gates and he must now die to who he is now, a life he loves, to save the world. The big clue to he really is found in a book, a journal.

But he loves the life of “John Smith” the life he is now posing in and doesn’t want to let it go. He must chose to be who he really is, even as he doesn’t know what that man is like.

Here is the deciding scene

There is a big difference between viciousness and violence. Both have increased in the last few years along with the “anti-hero”. I hate the anti-hero themes; I get really disinterested if I can’t cheer for the hero because he’s a jerk.

Viciousness I think has gone hand in hand with the rise of the anti-hero theme. There can be violence without the selfish desire to hurt another just because they are “against” the hero. Just think superman or any good cop, there doesn’t have to be a loss of “reality” just because the hero is not driven by some dark emotion.

A few Christians recently chided me over liking “the book of Eli” because it contained a lot of violence. But I had seen the violence of Eli as never for selfish motives in the movie, and it truly reminded of Samson.
We have yet to see in a modern movie anything come close to one guy killing 1000 men (warriors) with a blunt instrument (jaw bone).
