Gifts with a purpose
Have any of you men given special gifts to your children? Have you passed on items that have had a special meaning to you. The symbolism passing on a Godly heritage often goes unnoticed. I have several objects that I am setting aside for special moments with my children. (Rings, knives, books, etc..) I would love to hear what you guys have planned.

I pulled out my old wooden blocks for my then two year old son to use in late 2007. In the summer of 2008 I pulled out my Lincoln Logs. Those are more for simple play. Later, he will understand the significance. I do have a coin from 1876 that my great-great-grandfather gave my great-grandfather for the Centennial. It went to my grandmother and then my father. My father gave it to me during the Bicentennial. I will give it to my son in 2026. There is a name that all six have (my gg-grandfather down to my son). I read to my son from a book that my grandmother gave my father as a child. My father read it to me. Now, I read it to my son. Again, he is too young to understand now, but I will tell him about it later. As I write this I see that I have many items that will tell the Family Story to him-and there are items for my daughter, too. I look forward to reading what others do to pass on a heritage of faith. I have some items that can be used for that-old family Bibles, a hymnal from the 1830s, etc.

Gary, your example also reminds me of how Jeus walked in perfect peace....no fear...yeah! I wana know Him more too! I want that peace that flows like a river and never ends! There is SO much more in Him!
