Abba's Heart

He is the Father of the Prodigal. Full of love, compassion and tender mercy. He desires to cry out and call him, Abba, to know him intimately, as Daddy. He is not the bully and hateful God you are believing. Rest in his love and affection for you.

What Was Your Father Like Growing Up? 13 Replies

Question of the Day:   What was your Father like growing up? If you didn't have a Father growing up, what was it like growing up without one?

Been awhile since I have done anything with this group. I don't know why...its where a huge part of my passion lies. I think the enemy knows this...since its where I am often attacked and frustrated.

Anyway, this is something I wrote on my blog a few days ago. Thought it pertinent to this group and wanted to share it here.

Nothing really long here, just something to think about and meditate on…

Last week my five year old daughter got an ear infection and strep throat. She started feeling the ear infection around 11:30 at night and it kept her awake and crying for the next three hours. Ever have an ear infection? It’s awful….like someone is driving a nail into your ear drum.

I spent three hours holding her, pressing a warm wet cloth to her ear to give her some relief and praying the whole time that God would heal her. Honestly, I started to get a little frustrated. It was just an ear infection and it wouldn’t take God a flip of his finger to heal it. But after all that prayer she still cried, the infection was still there and she had to get on antibiotics the next day.

But while I was praying for her, my prayers turned to this: “Father, heal my little girl. Take away her pain. If someone must have this infection then let me have it. I will take it all. Give me the ear infection instead”.

And then, at 2:30am I had an “aha” moment as my own fatherly heart recognized my Father’s heart. Of a Father who felt (and feels) the same way towards me, who took my own sickness, my own disease into Himself so that I could be well and free, driven by the same Fatherly love that I was experiencing for my little girl.

Like I said, nothing drawn out here, just a reflection as I meditate on Father’s love.

“God shows his love for us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”

“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
